The Appeals Court in Bucharest decided on Wednesday to bring businessman of Arab descent Omar Hayssam to jail on grounds that he is willfully prolonging the act of justice and dodges court procedures against him. Judicial sources told HotNews.ro that he was expected back to prison on Wednesday night, but Hayssam had disappeared for two weeks, according to NewsIn agency.

The businessman’s attorneys may challenge the decision with an appeal within 24 hours. They said the man was currently hospitalized in a cancer sanatorium in the city of Valenii de Munte.

Hayssam, a businessman with strong connections both with the Arab world and the now-in-opposition Social Democratic Party (PSD), was placed under terrorism-related charges for his involvement in the abduction of three Romanian journalists and another businessman in Iraq last year.

Omar Hayssam was released at the end of April because of his frail health condition, but the arrest mandate was replaced with the interdiction of leaving the country. He suffers of cancer.
