The spokesperson of the Body Studying the Archives of the Securitate, the communist militia, said that the former Securitate used to recruit children as informers since they were 12 years old.

“There were networks of recruited children between 12 -14 and 19 -years old, within the “Education” umbrella. This was a special category of informers made up of children,” Cazimir Ionescu said.

Ionescu explained that there are hundred of such files of children who were supposed to inform about their classmates, about the dorms colleagues and about their parents, in particular. The former Securitate was mostly interested in the jokes on it, on the party’s leaders, on the relations of the parents with foreign citizens, and on the families listening to radios abroad.

The recruited children were good students with high marks, with good social skills, coming from modest families, of workers and peasants.
