Liberal leader Calin Popescu Tariceanu, who heads the Romanian Government, admitted on Friday that the relationship between the Government and the Presidency is rather weird. He made the statement at a Liberal Party reunion where he spoke about the priorities and the obstacles faced by the current Executive in Bucharest.

Despite the increasing criticism about the quarrels within the governing coalition Tariceanu said his Government managed to set a series of priorities, the most important of which is coming to terms with all the EU demands in order to let Romania join the Union on January 1, 2007.

And he called for unity within the Liberal group, at the end of a week when the party sanctioned Sebastian Vladescu, the minister of Finance, Foreign minister Mihai Razvan Ungureanu and several others proeminent Liberals for affecting the image of the party by opposing its request for a Romanian troops withdrawal from Iraq.
