Over 380 members of the European Parliament signed a petition which requests the Romanian Government to resume the international adoptions. The document was initiated by three Liberal MEPs Jean-Marie Cavada, Jacques Duquesne and Claire Gibaut and addresses the moratorium imposed in June 2001 that interrupted 1000 adoptions of Romanian orphans by European families.

The petition condemns the fact that the Romanian authorities disregard the connections already created among the foster parents and the children. It will be addressed to the Romanian Government, the European Commission and to the European Council.
