Weather services have announced two days of extreme heat across most of Romania today and tomorrow as temperatures will be 8 degrees Celsius above the average for the period. Maximum shadow temperatures this week may reach 35-36 degrees and will exceed 80 degrees at night.

Thermal comfort indices may exceed the critical threshold of 80 units in the West, South and South-East Romania, meteorologists announced.

Hundreds of people in the Romanian capital and other cities have fainted in the street over the past 24 hours while ambulance services were overwhelmed with emergency calls,

The situation is especially critical in Bucharest, known as a “concrete city” due to the huge number of blocks of flats and few, disparate green areas.
