Trade union members from the education sector organized protests before the government headquarters in Bucharest on Friday and warned they would launch a general strike because the Tariceanu government has breached a protocol concluded last year for the modernization of Romanian education.

The Spiru Haret trade union federation is pushing for 1.1% of the GDP be allocated for the modernization of public education as the government has promised and is calling the local administration to stop a long-lasting process in which many of public education properties have been sold to private businesses.
