Romania and Bulgaria may learn a month earlier the date of their accession to the European Union as the European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn has said the autumn report on the evolution of the two countries, set for October initially, may be published in September.

The EC considers the possibility to publish the report by mid-September, Rehn told Austrian newspaper Die Presse, saying that by then the two countries will have had enough time to prove they were ready for accession.

According to the Austrian paper, the idea of publishing the report earlier was suggested by German parliamentarians fearing that an October report would prevent Berlin legislators from finishing all the neccessary procedures to ratify the accession treaty of the two countries in time.
