The officers of the Romanian Financial Guard, members of the national trade union of public servants, were on strike on Thursday and said they would stay so after their claims are answered. They demand better office equipment, paid supplementary work and protection in their activities.

They showed at their offices early in the day, but said they would not operate in the field for the period of the strike. And they requested a meeting with Finance minister Sebastian Vladescu to discuss their claims.

The deputy head of the Financial Guard Gabriel Carbunaru however disagrees with the strike and believes the protesters would fail to obtain any results with this kind of action.

And a Finance Ministry press release says the strike was launched by “a small number of employees of the Finance Ministry” and would not affect the activities of the Ministry as a whole.
