PubliMedia International, the publishing company of the MediaPRO group, purchased 60 percent of the Bucharest-based newspaper Gandul stocks, following negotiations with the five shareholders of the daily. The newspaper’s management is to overtaken by the new majority shareholder, while the editorial policy will be provided by Cristian Tudor Popescu, editor-in-chief.

Following the trade, the daily might suffer some layout changes, announces Popescu.

Gandul sold to MediaPro despite the smaller amount of money than other offers, which is believed to have been less than 1 million euro, but the former shareholders believed this was the best choice in terms of press management.

Gandul emerged one year ago, under the shareholding of four journalists from Adevarul newspaper and poet Mircea Dinescu, also owner of some publications. Each one sold 60 percent of their shares, and now PubliMedia holds - 60%, Cristian Tudor Popescu - 14%, Mircea Dinescu - 8% and Bogdan Chirieac, Adrian Ursu and Lelia Munteanusi cite 6% each.

The MediaPRO group comprises TV channels - PRO TV, Acasa, PROCinema, Euphoria, radio station PRO FM, publication PRO TV magazine, and press agency Mediafax.
