Only 4.3T% of Romanian households have registered a house insurance in the period of June 2004-May 2005, due mainly to financial difficulties and lack of interest, a report on the living conditions of Romanians says. The study, published by the National Statistics Institute.

Among Romanians who had or have cars in the analyzed period, 78% acquired a compulsory car insurance and only 23% reported other forms of car insurance – for the same reasons as in the case of homes.

The analysis shows people in urban Romania are generally more interested (6.2%) in insuring their homes compared to people in rural areas (1.8%).

And the report shows that only 3% of buildings older than 1940 and 8% of those built after 1989 are insured.

This comes as 3% of Romanian households reported damages during the analyzed period, caused mainly by floods (52.8%) but also theft and theft attempts and the death of livestock.

During the mentioned period, 53 in each 10,000 households reported robberies – significantly lower than in the period of June 2003-May 2004 (62/10,000).
