A new week concludes with little hope in sight for the thousands of people evacuated due to Danube floods in Southern Romania. While the river flow is still receding, hydrologists warn that waters may rise again starting next week.

Some 14,000 people in many counties along the Danube have learned that coming May 8 they should expect rising Danube waters, which could lead to renewed floods in the region, after the current days of receding flow.

The news comes as authorities are continuing their effort to consolidate dykes and dams in affected areas, with most operations now turning to the counties of Constanta and Tulcea (Eastern Romania). But similar operations were still on course in the counties of Braila (west) and Dolj (south).
