Syrian businessman Omar Hayssam that had trade activities in Romania was released on Thursday by Romanian authorities, following the prosecutors’ decision to replace the preventive arrest request with the ban to leave the country in the case involving the kidnapping three Romanian journalists in Iraq.

Hayssam was arrested on April 5, 2005, for financial wrongdoings. The Defense lawyers have repeatedly requested the release of Hayssam due to health reasons, as the businessman is suffering of cancer in an advanced phase.
