The deputy head of the European Socialists, Jan Marinus Wiersma, pays a visit to Bucharest on Tuesday to meet Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu one day before the last evaluation on the phase of Romania’s preparations for EU accession is to be debated in the European Parliament, before the country monitoring report due next month.
Before departing to Bucharest, Wiersma said in Brussels yesterday that he expected the European Commission report due on May 16 to recommend the accession of Romania and Bulgaria in January 2007.
