The Romanian Justice Court decided on Thursday to reject the Syrian businessman Omar Hayssam's request to be freed on grounds of worsened health condition following a cancer colon surgery. Hayssam is charged with kidnapping three Romanian journalists in Iraq in March last year, and with other financial wrongdoings.

Hayssam’s lawyers accused the Romanian authorities of violating their client‘s rights stipulated in the European Convention for Human Rights by keeping him into custody while seriously ill.

Three weeks ago, the Court ruled to judge Hayssam at large in another case, but he was kept into custody due to the journalists’ kidnapping case.
