State secretary charged with corruption in relocation scandal

The National Anti-Corruption Directorate charged with corruption and abuse of office a state secretary responsible with mining issues within the Economy Ministry, along with other mining union leaders. The charges relate to the purchase of residences bellow the market price from the people to be relocated due to mining works.

The mining unions built luxurious villas for the new owners, one of them belonging to ministry official Ionel Mantog’s wife, a judge at the Tribunal Gorj.

The system that granted a certain group of people with the status of "relocatable" was established in 2000. The Oltenia Union proposed two best residential locations for the building of new homes.
