Romanian businessman Florian Anghelescu, the husband of an ex-presidential aide and charged in several cases with tax evasion, was discovered dead at his home in Bucharest on Thursday morning, according to news reports.

Anghelescu, married to Stana Anghelescu, who served as presidential aide for Traian Basescu, has been put under criminal inquiry since fiscal control authorities discovered a large amount of cigarettes with fake excise stamps at the headquarters of his company Anghelescu Industry SRL.

In December 2005, High Court prosecutors issued a ban for Anghelescu to leave Bucharest, where he lived in the luxurious residential quarter Baneasa.

His wife Stana was forced to resigned from her position as presidential aide following media reports that she allegedly tried to intervene in favor of her husband’s business deals.
