A Romanian soldier of the Romanian 280 Infantry battalion in Iraq shot herself in the head on Tuesday, according to the Defense Ministry in Bucharest. She survived the incident and was hospitalized in Kuwait.

Corporal Dobre Lili was alone in her tend after a mission when she shot herself. Emergency staff intervened promptly and she was transported in a state of coma to an Italian military hospital before being taken to Kuwait City for further care.

Romania has 860 troops in Iraq as part of the US-led multinational force there.

In June last year, two Romanian soldiers were wounded following an attack in Baghdad.
