The leader of the Romanian opposition Social Democratic Party (PSD) Mircea Geoana expressed his hope that the former head of the party and currently self-suspended executive president Adrian Nastase would prove "honour and courage" and present his resignation from the positions he holds within the Party and as speaker of the House of Deputies.

Geoana opinionated that the exclusion, an idea debated upon within the party, was a "dumb idea."

Adrian Nastase, quoted by the national TV station TVR, said that his resignation was a hypothesis "almost excluded" from the party’s leadership equation, claiming he was a victim of a fight against corruption that was narrowed down to only few names.

"Resignation is an unilateral decision and I find it absurd that someone asks another to resign," said Nastase.

A popular member of the party, the interim leader of the Bucharest PSD antenna Sorin Oprescu gas criticized Nastase harshly for damaging the image of the party.
