Worsening weather conditions brought trouble across Romania over the weekend, with at least one dead, two ports closed and traffic suspended on several roads.

A boy was reported dead Monday morning and two girls severely wounded as a tree uprooted by wind fell on them in Bucharest.

According to Realitatea TV, the boy was in a coma when taken to the Bagdasar Hospital in the Romanian capital, but died shortly afterwards. The two girls were in stable conditions but will be kept under medical care.

Meanwhile, the Transport Ministry announced the weather conditions halted traffic on three national roads in eastern and south Romania and severely hurt transport in areas in the north-west. Two ports – Constanta Sud Fluvial and Midia, were also closed, but no problems were reported with rail and air transports.

Weather forecasts say rain, snow and wind will affect the country for the whole week.
