Romanian PM Calin Popescu-Tariceanu met with Eurocopter and EADS’ representatives on Friday to hold talks about privatisation of the Romanian helicopters’ producer IAR Ghimbav Brasov.

Following withdrawal of PUMA and Alouette producing licenses in 1997, the Romanian company faced export drops and chose to associate with the French helicopters producer Eurocopter, part of the EADS (European Aeronautic, Defense and Space Company) group. Eurocopter is the biggest civil helicopters producers worldwide.

Eurocopter Romania is officially active since January 2001, the French holding 51 per cent of the shares.

EADS signed a contract with the Romanian govt. to ensure border security. It was renegotiated last fall, following allegations of a very high price and of overlapping European projects for border security.

The meeting on Friday served also as a reminder for EADS to deliver the borders security project’s result in due time so that Romania can fulfill all conditions for the EU accession.
