Romanian Finance minister Sebastian Vladescu has dismissed media speculations that his ministry prepares to increase certain taxes this year. He was quoted by Realitatea TV as saying that the first possible tax boost may take place in January next year.

Vladescu said Romania will need higher budget resources in 2007 to cover its needs as a new member of the EU, which it hopes to become on January 1 next year. He said the resources would result from changes to the fiscal code and new taxes due to come into effect this year.
