The turnover of Romanian movie industry topped 200 mln euros in 2005, eleven folded more compared to 2000, according to the National Cinematography Centre (CNC) report.

Movie production and distribution unfold independently, after the regime of monopoly was scrapped due to the development of small and medium sized enterprises, amounting 624 in the cinematography field.

CNC financed 16 long films, out of which five European co-productions, and five short movies, with a total value of 59, 5 billion ROL. Producers invested approximately 100 billion ROL in Romanian movies in 2005.

In 2005, eight long films and six short films premieres were made, their making being subsidized by CNC with 79 bln ROL.

The major event of the year was "The Death of Mr. Lazarescu" movie by Romanian director Cristi Puiu, awarded with 25 international prizes, among which „Un certain regard" from Cannes.

In 2006, CNC forecasts a doubling in movie production, planning to make and launch some 12 movies.
