The deputy head of the Romanian National Equities Commission (CNVM) announced today he was charged by prosecutors for favoring criminals and being part of an organized crime group in an extensive case opened against Romanian oil company Rompetrol.

CNVM vice-president Paul Miclaus was summoned to court for the fourth time yesterday to explain his role in suspicious transactions run by Rompetrol on the Romanian Stock Exchange.

He told the media later that all the charges against him are groundless.
