Transport Minister Ludovic Orban declared on Friday that his ministry opened a feasibility study for the construction of a new airport in the Southern area of Bucharest. "The study will be ready at the middle of 2007, then a governmental decision will be released, establishing a budget for the opening of works in 2009", said Orban.

The Transport Minister also announced that the works will begin to widen the Southern freeway ring around Bucharest, as well as to develop the area. "The North is already under aggression. We appeal to developers to take the South into account just as well", said Bucharest vice mayor Razvan Murgeanu.
