Romanian bloggers protested in downtown Bucharest on Thursday in a flash mob recalling the death of Teo Peter, a member of a reputed Romanian rock band, who was killed by an American citizen working for the US Embassy in a car crash years ago. The protest comes as US authorities decided the family of Teo Peter should receive compensation of $16,000 while the American driver got hardly any sentence.

Flash mobbers wore white t-shirts written in red and stood still for 5 minutes before a fountain in the Universitatii Square in downtown Bucharest.

As NATO leaders including George W. Bush gathered in Bucharest for their spring summit these days, demonstrators sported messages such as “Fighting together? Why kill us then? Pro Teo Peter”, “American citizens? Priceless! For all the rest…there’s MASTECARD! Pro Teo Peter” or “1 american server = $1.600.000, 1 romanian = $16.000! Pro Teo Peter”.
