Bucharest now owns its first intelligent traffic lights that change color depending on the traffic load. Information from the most crowded intersections will be managed by a control center which has as main goal to improve traffic conditions.

The so called intelligent traffic lights will create one way access for Ambulances and police cars which will be monitored through a satellite system to help them arrive faster at destinations. Bucharest mayor Adriean Videanu said that this measure is part of a more complex project which will be finished by September this year.

Bucharest City Hall Infrastructure Agency head Gheorghe Udriste declared for the Romanian public radio that the control center will cover some 1600 traffic lights which will be replaced and over 90 video cameras will supplement them in several important crossroads.
