Romania's consumption price index that measures the inflation increased by 0.8% in January as compared to a year ago while the annual inflation reached 7.26%, the National Statistics Institute data show. As compared to December last year, the biggest price boosts were recorded in the services sector. Air transportation services increased their tariffs by 4.43% and phone bills grew by 4.38%.

Romanian National Bank BNR has revised its inflation forecast for 2008 from 4.3% to 5.9% but decided to maintain the target set for this year to 3.8%. For next year, the forecast inflation is 3.9%.
