Negotiations between union representatives and the management of SC Dacia Automobile Pitesti, the Southern Romanian factory where Renault's Dacia car are produced, concluded with a new failure on Monday afternoon. The management of the company rejected a proposal to boost salaries by 550 RON as unrealistic, prompting workers to continue the general strike, according to Romanian news agency Mediafax.

Dacia workers, now in the sixth day of general strike, faced a strong position among company representatives who maintained an average income growth for employees by some 250 RON.

Trade union leader Nicolae Pavelescu said workers decided to continue their protest for an unlimited period as employers failed to deliver a better offer.

A local court is due to decide on Wednesday April 2 over a Dacia request to put an end to general strike as the management of the company claims the strike was launched with an insufficient signatures and was pushing for illegal purposes such as the worker's claim to part of the company profits.
