Renault plans to launch an electric car as big as Twingo with different battery sets by 2012, Auto Express reads. Renault Development Director Patrick Pelata said that if everything goes as planned, the car will be available for the summer Olympic Games in 2012. He added that the group considers London an attractive market for this kind of cars.

He added that the car would resemble the Twingo model and that the company plans to offer clients several batteries, for short rides and for longer ones. Pelata said that Renault will most probably rent batteries.

Electric cars are hardly developed by car producers because demand on the market is not high enough due to their limited autonomy. Several US producers started producing such cars but at a low production rate.
