Some 230 workers of the Leoni company, on the industrial platform of Romania's car maker Dacia Automobile, launched a general strike on Monday morning starting with 7 am for an unlimited period of time, Mediafax informs. According to trade union representative Ion Iordache, the main request of the workers is a salary increase of 340 Romanian Ron.

Some 95% of the Leoni workers are Dacia Automobile union members and thus Dacia's trade union negotiates on their behalf. The union leader said that the strike was legal since 95% of the Leoni workers were union members.

Iordache declared that Leoni has 270 employees and the average gross salary is 864 Romanian Ron without bonuses. On March 24, Dacia Automobile Pitesti workers launched a general strike which lasted three weeks and ended after extended negotiations.
