Romania classed fifth in the European Union in terms of inflation growth after reporting a n inflation rise of 8.5% in May, according to the Eurostat. At the level of the Union, the average inflation rate was 3.9% while in the Euro zone, the indicator showed 3.7%.

As compared to the previous month, inflation grew in 21 member states, remained stable in other 3 states and dropped in 2 states. The lowest inflation rates are registered in Netherlands with 2.1%, Portugal with 2.8% and Germany with 3.1%.

At the other end of the spectrum, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Estonia registered the highest inflation rates with 12.3%, 14,0% and 11.4%.
