Several hypermarkets in Bucharest and across Romania were fined by Romania's National Consumers Protection agency for misleading advertising by the way products were presented but also for the improper way food products were stored.

In a report released by the institution officials declare that in July more than 195 economic operators were checked and over 146,600 food products verified. Among these, more than 18,800 kg did not comply with standards. Inspectors issued 104 fines totallng 446,500 Romanian Ron.

Among sanctioned hypermarkets are Billa, Mega Image, Cora, Penny, Kaufland and Carrefour. Officials declared that most hypermarkets mislead their consumers by the way products are arranged on stacks.
