The announced measures to suspend the environment tax for new cars - proposed by President Basescu and confirmed by PM Tariceanu - is indeed a help for Dacia but it is not a long term solution, Dacia Vice President Constantin Stroe declared for HotNews.ro. He added that the immediate effect of the measure will decrease the price of the cars.

He said that the President's visit at Dacia factories is a welcomed help but it is only a temporary solution and the new government will have to actually implement the measures put forward by the President and confirmed by PM Tariceanu. Stroe declared that the first months of the year sales of cars decreased but he was optimistic that things will improve.

Several voices from the Romanian car industry however declare that the new automobile market is falling because of the new registration tax that encourages second hand car imports. Dacia director Francois Fourmont declared that if the situation gets worse, some Dacia dealers will shut their business and the factory might also consider firing some staff.
