Romania's Post Office Company will lay off 500 employees in 2009 after changing its automobiles, the company's operational director Mihai Cristian Buciu informed on Wednesday. He added that the automobiles will be changed in the first part of the next year and the process will lead to an important decrease of personnel who currently drive the Post Office's cars. Those who will stay will benefit from a salary increase, Mediafax informs.

Moreover, some 1,500 employees namely the cleaning and valuable transports staff will be transferred to some 3 companies that fulfill the activities for the Post Office. Currently, the Post Office has some 35,600 employees.

A few days ago, the company announced that it will purchase 727 cars at an estimated value of 108.8 million Romanian Ron. Romania's Post Office is the biggest operator in the country, with 35,000 employees and a territorial network of 7,100 offices.
