The Intact group - one of the largest media groups in Romania, owning several TV stations and publications - announced an average 20% decrease of wages, as part of the costs decease policy adopted in order to face the financial crisis.

"The measure came in order to avoid laying off professionals who normally shouldn't fear for their jobs", said Intact president Camelia Voiculescu.

At the same time, Pro Sport, a leading sports publication in the Media Pro group, announced that it will go through "organizational changes" that include lay-offs. Rumors say some 16b journalists may lose jobs. "Pagina de media", a professional blog, also informs that daily newspaper Gandul cut 5% of all wages.
