Transport Minister Radu Berceanu announced on Sunday that an efficiency increase plan will be adopted for the Romanian Railroad Company (CFR), including the adoption of a new structure and laying off personnel. The decision came after it was noted that most of the company's income is detoured towards the employees' wages.

The minister visited the Craiova railroad station, where modernization works have been taking place for three years. "Things are quite bad. There is no money to repair it, mainly because of the low income", said Berceanu. The official also wishes for a new legislation, with more severe sanctions for ticket controllers who accept bribes (nicknamed "godfathers" in popular language).
