Romania's national currency is the only currency to gain ground against the euro in the region, on Monday with an exchange rate below 4.25 Romanian Ron for one euro, Mediafax informs. The first transfers of the week were dealt at an exchange rate of 4.2550 Romanian Ron/euro.

A bank dealer declared that the central bank could have had an indirect intervention. Regional currencies register significant corrections, of almost 1% as the GM and Chrysler restructuring programs were rejected.

Romania's Central Bank published on Thursday a reference rate of 4.2484 Romanian Ron/euro, reaching the lowest level in the past weeks. Last week's exchange rate went close to the February 9 quotation of 4.2450 Romanian Ron/ euro.
