Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc declared for the public radio station, Radio Romania Actualitati, that "the tax evasion reached a high level in Romania. Those who should pay the legal taxes and fees should not be divided in two categories - those who are fair and pay, and they suffer because of the large amounts they pay, and those who refuse to pay, finding excuses and explanations, and are then left alone".

Boc explained that the lump tax project will be sent to the Parliament after it is discussed with the social partners and after the arriving of an official letter from the International Monetary Fund".

Finance Ministry officials explained last week that the lump tax will represent, in fact, a way to collect taxes from companies that pretend having losses, in order to avoid taxes. According to the latest statistics, more than 40% of the companies in Romania declared they have annual losses.
