The Romanian Government enabled the Telecomm Ministry to pay some 100 million Euros for the right to use Microsoft software licenses in ministries and governmental agencies, between 2009 and 2012. The funds will come from the state budget and the first payment will be made in 2010. The amount will increase according to the exchange rate variations and taking into account various expenses.

The Romanian government will buy the right to use 163,138 licenses. In 2009, the public institutions use 150,694 licenses, acquired between 2004 and 2008. The commercial agreement for the existing licenses expires on April 26, 2009.
