Romania's Economy minister Adriean Videanu said Romania was reporting a surplus of natural gas production which helped provide help to industrial consumers. These will benefit from natural gas from domestic production exclusively for the next six months as domestic production was cheaper than imported gas.

But Videanu said there was not enough natural gas from domestic production for household consumers.

He said he would send a notification to the European Commission on this form of support for industrial consumers as the measure was aimed at helping industry companies to deal with the economic crisis.

Videanu also said on Tuesday that Romanian authorities have to deal with the issue posed by the energy firms' debts to the state before these firms are included in two energy companies that will be formed following the restructuring of the sector.
