The government plans to negotiate with the IMF an increase in the set budgetary deficit threshold for the third quarter to cater for a higher investment volume in this period, a governmental source declared for HotNews.ro. The executive plans, nonetheless, to control the budgetary deficit within the set boundaries.

The quoted source declared that the government needs to increase the budgetary deficit quota in order to accelerate investments. These declarations follow the executive's decision to change investment plans and move them from the fourth to the third quarter.

Finance minister Gheorghe Pogea declared on July 1, 2009 that credit lines worth 1.1 billion lei were opened to intensify investments and thus counter the crisis. In the first six months of the year, some 33% of the budget on investments was spent.
