Romania's annual inflation rate dropped to 4.94% in September, according to a press release of the National Statistics Institute. At a monthly average salary of 1,348 lei, this means an employee would lose 800 lei yearly because of inflation.

Inflation was fueled especially by non-food products but also by services such as water supplies and cleaning services, the press release says.

The National Bank of Romania set an inflation target of 3.5% with a margin of 1 percentage point for 2009.
