The first nine foreign banks operating in Romania, which hold 70% of the banking market confirmed their engagement at Brussels to continue their support for the local economic environment in Romania, a press release of the IMF reads on Wednesday.

The program will continue and so will talks, the press release reads. An IMF delegation will arrive in Bucharest as soon as the political situation will be clarified. The nine banks signed an agreement letter to maintain their exposure level on the Romanian market with a capital of over 10%.

The banks signing the agreement were: Erste Bank, Raiffeisen International, Eurobank EFG, National Bank of Greece, Societe Generale, Alpha Bank, Volksbank, Piraeus Bank and UniCredit.
