Romania's GDP dropped in the last three months of 2009 by 6.5% compared to the same period, last year, a press release of the National Statistics Institute to HotNews.ro reads. According to the document, the value of all goods and services produced in Romania in the last three months of 2009 were 152.29 billion lei. Agriculture and industry registered an increase while constructions, commerce and financial activities decreased.

The only segments registering increases were agriculture and industry. On the other side of the spectrum, constructions, commerce and financial sector activities dropped. Data in constructions show that the First House program, meant to improve the real estate sector did not have any notable effect.

The good news is that exports increased to +2.9% while imports decreased by 11.1%. The GDP estimated for 2009 was 491.27 billion lei, a 7.1% drop compared to 2008.
