Bulgarian cucumbers are exported to Romania, while Bulgarians consume products of inferior quality imported from Greece and Turkey. Bulgarian Greenhouse association manager Plamen Dimitrov told Focus News that the largest amount of cucumbers produced in his country in March has already been exported to mostly Romania and the Czech Republic.

Meanwhile, the Bulgarians have to eat cheaper products, of inferior quality, which they import from Turkey and Greece. When it comes to the vegetables' sector, Bulgaria's largest exports are cucumbers - over 4,500 tones annually. Its main export markets are the Czech Republic, Romania, Latvia and Germany.

The forecast for 2010 on cucumber exports is encouraging, specialists say. There is currently a substantial demand for Bulgarian cucumbers and the overseas clients come with significant demand, Plamen Dimitrov said.
