The traffic police is perceived as the most corrupt department of the Romanian Interior, closely followed by the Customs Police, shows an INSOMAR survey quoted by Romanian news agency NewsIn.

80% of Romanians consider that the corruption level grew or stagnated after Romania joined the European Union, the same poll shows.

Respondents who pointed towards the traffic police as the most corrupt institution are mostly well-educated residents of cities. Citizens of Romanian capital Bucharest have clearly stonger opinions than those residing in other cities: 84% of the respondents in Bucharest consider that the traffic police is very corrupt, while the average in the country is 64%.

Some 41% of the respondents believe that Interior Ministry's main anti-graft body, the General Anti-corruption Department (DGA) registers a high level of corruption.
