The situation was tense again at Stefanesti, Ilfov county on Monday after Social Democratic (PSD) supporters and their New Generation Party (PNG) counterparts were on the verge of a fight following the announcement of results in local elections yesterday, which were marred by unprecedented incidents in the village. Police forces were needed in order to calm down the spirits today, Romanian news television Realitatea Tv informs.

The first partial official results point that the Social Democratic candidate for mayor of Stefanesti will win, a situation which fired up supporters of the New Generation Party (PNG) who support the incumbent mayor. Thus, people started to accuse each other of bribe taking.

PNG supporters contested the electoral results and urged for a new round of elections. Similar incidents were registered there yesterday, when hundreds of people went to vote at the two constituencies in the village.

Police forces needed to intervene yesterday as well. Interior minister Cristian David requested two investigations at Stefanesti. One of them will determine whether electoral bribe was received or not.
