The main opposition party in Romania, the Social Democrats (PSD) will propose a new law on political party funding for the parliamentary elections this fall, PSD president Mircea Geoana has declared. Geoana points out that the greatest risk for the upcoming elections is that money would count more than political abilities, considering that this will be the first uninominal parliamentary elections.

He added that the June local elections proved that votes can be bought quite easily and this is why the Social Democratic Party proposed a new law on political party funding, monitoring agency Rador reports.

PSD leader Mircea Geoana declared that these parliamentary elections should promote politicians based on their quality and power of political projects and not on their economic power. For the parliamentary elections, Social Democrats plan to obtain 200 mandates. Among these, 33% will be represented by Social Democratic women.
