UPDATE: Romanian Deputies rejected on Tuesday with 116 votes for and 100 against and 10 abstains the request of the general prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi to approve the investigation against former PM Adrian Nastase in the Zambaccian 1.

The Chamber of Deputies will cast a vote today, on whether they will approve the request of the general prosecutor, to recast the vote in the corruption case involving former PM Adrian Nastase, in the Zambaccian 1 file. The decision was taken on Monday night, after a three hour debate.

Romania's general prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi requested, in a letter sent to the Chamber of Deputies on May 18, a new vote on Adrian Nastase's file. She invoked the unconstitutionality of the Chamber's interior regulations on August 13, 2008 when Deputies rejected an investigation against former PM Adrian Nastase.

The Democrat Liberals proposed that the request should be sent to the Judicial Committee, hoping that it will be approved, given that the committee is chaired by the Democrat Liberals. However, Social Democrats preferred to keep the debate in the Chamber. Sources declared that they are hoping for a negative vote or a lack of quorum.
