Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) vice-president Gheorghe Flutur will manage the electoral campaign of the PDL for Romania President Traian Basescu in presidential election later this autumn, a PDL deputy said on Friday, quoted by news agency Mediafax.

Ioan Balan, a deputy for the county of Suceava, said Flutur will be the head of the PDL candidate for presidency, Traian Basescu. "Basescu will run for PDL and will be supported by PDL", Balan said.

The move comes as Vasile Blaga, who has been managing PDL electoral campaigns, has been named interim minister for the Interior and cannot deal with the electoral campaign, following the withdrawal of the Social Democrats from the Government on Thursday.
